The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo calls regional leaders for 6th meeting to continue the talk and resolve the stalemate on the elections.
President Farmajo, on March 22, 2021, convened a meeting to conclude the efforts and negotiations on electoral issues between the Federal Government of Somalia, the Regional Governments and the Benadir Regional Administration.
The two-day conference aims to conclude the recommendations of the Electoral Technical Committee from the Baidoa Conference on 15-16 February 2021, which resolved concerns over the September 17, 2020 election agreement.
President Farmajo urged the Presidents of the State Governments and the Governor of Benadir Region to give high priority to this conference to address the concerns raised by the electoral agreement in order to lead the country to free and fair elections.
Puntland’s interior minister Dhaban-Cad issued a statement on statement from Villa Somalia calling on regional leaders to meet again. He said they are preparing a response to the president’s statement.
Jubaland, meanwhile, is expected to respond to the statement from the Somali presidency, the sixth time President Farmajo has called for a consultative meeting.
