Ahmed Madobe arrives in Mogadishu with heavily armed militia

Today the President of Jubaland Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) has arrived in Mogadishu to attend a conference on electoral matters.

Various opposition leaders welcomed Ahmed Madobe’s delegation at Aden Abdulle International Airport.

“We have come to let the country move forward. You will hear from me later, ”said Ahmed Madobe.

Earlier, a plane load of the Jubaland leader’s heavily armed militiamen has landed in the capital’s airport.

According to eyewitnesses present at the airport, militiamen were displaying a range of weapons including assault rifles and shoulder-fired rocket launchers.

Later, in the evening, the Jubaland strongman had a private meeting with James Swan, the United Nations Special Representative to Somalia.

The meeting took place at the residence of Ahmed Madobe in Mogadishu and details of the discussion are not known.
