Leaders of 5 Regional Administrations Hold A Critical Teleconference

According to reliable sources, the five presidents of Somalia’s regional states, Puntland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, Southwest and Jubaland, held a critical teleconference last night.

The meeting discussed the stalemate in Somalia’s elections, as President Farmajo’s term draws to a close with just two weeks left, and there are fears of a vacancy in the country.

The meeting came after representatives of the international community held separate meetings yesterday and yesterday with regional leaders and opposition candidates, seeking a solution to the dispute over Somalia’s elections.

The telephone conference of the regional leaders discussed how to overcome the challenges of the election and to come to a compromise.

The presidents of Hirshabelle, Galmudug and Southwest have good relations with Villa Somalia, while those in Jubaland and Puntland are close to the opposition candidates.

Recently, the UK Ambassador to the UN met with the Somali Foreign Minister and told him that time was running out and that the elections needed to begin, and called on the Federal Government to look for the regions and reach a consensus election.

Representatives of the international community are working to convene a meeting to resolve the standoff.
