The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, lauding the role of the Somali youth in the freedom, unity and state building of our country, laid a wreath at the SYL Monument in Mogadishu which is a cornerstone of the Somali people’s struggle against colonialism.
The president congratulated Somali youth on May 15th celebration which coincides with the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Somali Youth Council (SYL), highlighting the significance of this day for the Somali people.
The President of the Republic received a courtesy call from a contingent of the Somali National Army, while the Military Band performed the National Anthem and other emblematic musical pieces.
In his address at the SYL Monument, the President prayed and paid tribute to the 13 youths who initiated the struggle for the country’s independence and unity.
President Mohamed encouraged Somali people wherever they are to preserve the history of their struggle for independence which symbolizes the courage, determination and resilience of the nation.
The wreath laying ceremony was attended by Benadir Governor Omar Mohamud Mohamed Filish and his deputies, Federal Government Ministers, Armed Forces Commanders and youth from Benadir region’s 17 districts.
