This month, the Kormeeraha Magazine chose Ahmed Karie Qoorqoor, the president of Galmudug, as the personality that marked the month of October.
Coming from a region that has produced the best and worst politicians in Somali history, he has distinguished himself from his very corrupt and aimless peers.
His detractors have criticized him for having chosen continuity over chaos by giving an unwavering support to President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
They also accused him of being alien to the region and not taking Galmudug anywhere.
Qoorqoor surprised more than one in his response this month to Ahlu-Sunna Wa Jamaa’s armed rebellion in his area.
He has not only defeated the negative criticism of his ability to administer his region since becoming president, but he has also nailed the beak to the ominous birds.
Those who supported the ASWJ rebellion now see him as a leader capable of bringing together, pacifying and reorganizing the Galmudug population plagued by 30 years of insecurity.
He was able to triumph over the enemies of peace, showing them that the days when arms were a bargaining chip are over.
He has also shown that he is listening to the grievances of his opponents who are now lining up to give him their support.
With Qoorqoor ’s heroic actions this October, Somalia is turning a page in its history.
The Somali nation now sees in Qoorqoor the president who knows how to lead an army in times of war and make peace when necessary.
His courage and determination to meet the challenges of one of the most turbulent regions are needed to unite all of Somalia.
