Galmudug President Mohamed Ahmed Abdi Kariye “Qoorqoor” who was on a business trip the last few days in Turkey has recently reached the capital.
He was welcomed at the airport by members of the Benadir regional administration, ministers, elders and intellectuals in Mogadishu.
Ahmed Abdi Kariye “Qoorqoor” is expected to attend an election consultative conference in Mogadishu Halane Compound in the coming days.
Right after his arrival, President Qoorqooor had separate private meetings with US Ambassador to Somalia Donald Yamamoto and with James Swan, the UN Special Representative for Somalia.
Mr. Qoorqoor and the representatives discussed the international community’s efforts to convene a conference to finalize the electoral process, in particular the agreement reached on September 17th, 2020 in Dhusamareb and the technical committees supplementary agreement in Baidoa on February 16th, 2021.
Those meetings comes at a time when reports say that Galmudug and Southwest administrations have set conditions for participating in an eventual conference administered by foreign entities in the Mogadishu Halane Compound.
Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoor-Qoor, who has hosted previous rounds of talks, is facing the strongest pressure from James Swan and Yamamoto, two American diplomats interested in overcoming the conflict and launching a consultative meeting.
