A delegation led by Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni, preceded by his heavily armed militia, was welcomed at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport by opposition leaders and members of parliament from the Puntland region.
Mr. Deni is expected to attend a meeting between the Federal Government and state governments which is scheduled to be held in the coming days at Mogadishu’s Halane Compound.
This round of talks which will be managed by the International community against the government wishes is about resolving the dispute over the administration of the elections.
Puntland and Jubaland leaders have long lobbied to exclude the current federal government, under Farmajo’s leadership, from organising the elections and delayed their commitment to the September 17 agreement.
There is no specific date on when the meeting would take place as two more regional state leaders, Galmudug and Southwest, leaders are outside the country.
However, Hirshabelle and Jubaland leaders, Ali Guudlaawe and Ahmed Madobe, were already in Mogadishu.
Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe, who took up residence in Halane surrounded by his militia, started meeting in private opposition members as well as foreign representatives.
