Turkish-Trained Troops Welcomed At Mogadishu’s Airport

Troops from the 6th Regiment of the 17th Gorgor Commando Battalion trained in Turkey have returned home.

The troops were brought by a Turkish Air Force aircraft and were welcomed by the Minister of Defense and the Commander of the Somali National Army.

The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, HE Hassan Hussein Haji, addressed the repatriated Gorgor troops, thanking the Turkish brothers and urging them to take part in building peace.

“The formation of the army is underway and their rights are ready. Long live Somalia,” said Minister Hassan.

“Receive my greetings from the President, thank you,” the defense minister concluded.

Somalia has been receiving military training abroad, but the arrival of the troops comes at a time when the country is looking to hold elections.
